Allegheny Distilling, the manufacturer of Maggie’s Farm Rum and Personal Day Vodka Hard Seltzer, has recently commenced operations at a newly constructed 220,000-square-foot production distillery in Upper Saint Clair, Pennsylvania. This facility is situated in the Strip District neighborhood of Pittsburgh, approximately ten miles to the southwest of the company’s original distillery.
“Because I realized the significance of ownership and self-investment in safeguarding our future. Tim Russell, founder and head distiller of Maggie’s Farm Rum, stated, “Our customers’ continued support during one of the most challenging small business climates in history gave me the confidence to take a much larger step than intended on a property and construct a state-of-the-art distillery in a space that should support our growth for many more years.”
The cutting-edge establishment comprises two levels, which have been extensively renovated to incorporate a newly engineered copper pot still with a capacity of 3,000 liters, a fermentation capacity exceeding 6,000 gallons, and sufficient cask storage. Allegheny Distilling, in response to the escalating demand for its premium spirits, acknowledged the imperative for expanding beyond the confines of its previous facility’s 3,000-square-foot area and 1,000-liter still capacity.
In addition, the new distillery is equipped with a 40-can-per-minute canning line, which will be utilized to expand Allegheny Distilling’s Personal Day brand, which debuted in 2021 and is a real juice vodka hard seltzer.
Maggie’s Farm is presently positioned to fulfill demand on a national scale, given the expansion of its distribution network throughout the United States. This month has also seen the expansion of Maggie’s Farm distribution into North Carolina via Dorado Rock and Minnesota via Bourget Imports. At this time, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, DC, Tennessee, Georgia, Illinois, and Oklahoma are all carrying Maggie’s Farm rums. Additionally, products are offered for special order in the states of California and New York via Liberation Distribution.
“Our steadfast banking partners who shared our vision and provided the necessary financial support for this endeavor are to be regarded with immense gratitude. Russell continued, “Maintaining our ownership structure was of the utmost importance, and we’ve accomplished that with their assistance.”
The total investment for this project, which is nearing $5,000,000 and is jointly financed by Enterprise Bank, the Regional Development Funding Corporation, and the SBA, includes a cocktail bar and full-service restaurant situated on the second floor of the facility, with an overlook to the distillery production floor.
Although the production of spirits has been relocated to the newly established Upper St. Clair distillery, the original Smallman Street distillery situated in Pittsburgh’s Strip District continues to function normally in terms of beverage service and retail, in addition to serving as a barrelhouse for the maturation of rums. Behind the cocktail bar, the initial still and cask racks for the rear “rickhouse” remain on exhibit.
