Combining their passion for rum and exploration, Venezuelans Antonio Lopez de Haro and Luigi Rockets formed the innovative Rare Spirits Society, which has successfully pioneered the film production of “Uncharted Territories,” a unique documentary series on rum and travel adventure.

On April 13, 2024, the first pilot episode named “Uncharted Territories: Cambodia, Kingdom of Wonder” debuted. In this episode, eight members of the Rare Spirits Society visited Cambodia to see the merging of community, rum culture, and exploration spirit. The trailer and the complete first episode are available on their YouTube account.

“To fall in love with a Rum, you must fall in love with its country”, explains Antonio Lopez de Haro, Co-Founder of Rare Spirits Society and Samai Distillery, adding that “it’s in the soul of the land where the spirit of the Rum truly comes alive” . This is just what “Uncharted Territories” does, taking viewers on a visual tour of the breathtaking scenery in each of the Rum countries they encounter.

The first episode’s major highlight is the visit to Samai Distillery in Phnom Penh, which is Cambodia’s first premium rum brand and distillery. There, members interact with Daniel Pacheco, the company’s Venezuelan co-founder and CEO, Master Distiller Ms. Champich Moang, Production Manager Antoine Callet, and Brand Ambassador Sam Dalcourt, providing a thorough understanding of the craft of creating rum.

“Our first trip to Cambodia was more than simply a visit; it was an immersion into the vibrant local culture and the core of Rum culture. Luigi Rockets, artist & co-founder of Rare Spirits Society, said, “This expedition has set a precedent for Rare Spirits Society, blending exploration, culture, and the pursuit of Rare rums while fostering connections and experiences for its members.”

The Members go to the eighth wonder of the world, the magnificent Angkor Wat, the Kulen Elephant Forest near Siem Reap, and go on a hike with Jean-Benoit from C4 Adventures to a remote waterfall on Koh Rong island. Members learned about the greatest pepper in the world and Khmer cuisine at La Plantation Kampot Pepper Farm, where they are welcomed by proprietors Guy and Nathalie. They also get to see Diego Wilkins’ handiwork at his D. Wilkins Leather Workshop.

In the upcoming months, “Uncharted Territories” will be filming its second episode in Venezuela. Future episodes will also be recorded in various rum-producing nations throughout the globe, including Barbados, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Philippines.

Back in March 2024, both Antonio Lopez de Haro and Sola Wild, the marketing manager of RareSpirits, were invited by Federico Hernandez of TheRumLab.com to Puerto Rico. It was an opportunity for them to explore the island, see a few distilleries, and attend Taste of Rum, the island’s main rum festival. The firm was able to finalize an agreement with San Juan Artisan Distillers to allocate two barrels for the members.
