The Rum category is certainly growing in three European markets that border the Atlantic Sea. Not only are they growing, but the local market is investing in growing the category through educational and tasting events. Based on a previous IWSR report, between all three markets, they represented approximately the following volumes of 9-liter cases. The majority of the rums in the report are imported to each market.

Madeira Rum Festival, April 16–21, 2024 (Madeira, Portugal) Since 2017, the Madeira Rum Festival has been held on the captivating Portuguese island of Madeira, which is well-known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The celebration of Madeira Agricole Rum is the focus of this festival, which attracts rum enthusiasts and vacationers from around the world.
The festival offers activities for both seasoned connoisseurs and those who are new to the world of rum, such as masterclasses on Madeira agricole rum, pairings with Madeira agricole rum, and mixology.
Notes by Federico:
It caught my attention that hard local rum brands don’t have a strong presence, if any, in the list of products. This is an area of great opportunity for the local industry that makes amazing rums at the Island of Madeira.
Spain: A very unique market in the EU with a vast opportunity to grow in the Premium Category.
