Planteray Sealander Makes a Bold US Debut

Planteray Rum, owned by Maison Ferrand, has officially introduced its Planteray Sealander expression to the United States, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s global expansion. First launched in international markets in September 2023 under its former name Plantation, this unique rum now becomes part of Planteray’s permanent portfolio.

Planteray Sealander: Three Oceans, One Vision

Planteray Sealander brings together rums from three distinct regions: Barbados in the Atlantic, Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, and Fiji in the South Pacific. Each component is crafted at one of the brand’s partner distilleries—Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery, Saint Aubin Distillery, and Rum Co. of Fiji—and reflects the terroir of its origin.

According to The Spirits Business, Planteray describes Sealander as a rum that “blends Planteray’s pioneering approach to rum-making with the distinctive qualities native to each island distillery.”

Alexandre Gabriel Celebrates the Spirit of Adventure

Master blender and brand owner Alexandre Gabriel personally crafted Planteray Sealander, inspired by the brand’s long-standing maritime heritage.

“For more than 25 years, Planteray Rum barrels have sailed between the great rum-producing origins and France, to bring the finest rums to your bars and tables. Sealander honors this history – I am so excited to share it with you,” Gabriel told The Spirits Business.

Inside the Blend: A Look at Each Rum

Fiji: Rich, Tropical Depth

The Fijian component of Planteray Sealander is a column-distilled rum that matured for five years in charred barrels. Thanks to the island’s warm, humid climate, this rum develops flavors of chocolate, smoke, and tropical fruit.

Barbados: Balanced and Ester-Rich

Produced at Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados, this rum combines pot and column still methods. Aged for up to eight years, it brings classic Barbadian notes of vanilla and coconut with a signature high-ester character. The distillery itself is located on Brighton Beach, directly facing the Caribbean Sea.

Mauritius: Fresh and Herbal

Saint Aubin Distillery in Mauritius contributes a column-distilled cane juice rum, known for its grassy and herbal freshness. This component enhances the overall blend with brightness and complexity.

Flavor Notes: A Journey Through the Senses

Planteray Sealander offers an aromatic bouquet of pear, quince jelly, and gooseberry layered with hints of smoky molasses. On the palate, expect clover honey, licorice, beeswax, vanilla fudge, prune, cooked apple, tonka bean, and dried banana. This intricate flavor profile reflects the unique influences of its three regions.

Bottled for Discovery

Bottled at 40% ABV, Planteray Sealander retails for approximately $44 in the US. It arrives as a high-quality yet accessible entry point into the brand’s globally inspired lineup.

Industry Recognition and Future Releases

At The Rum & Cachaça Masters 2025, Planteray Sealander earned a Master medal, reinforcing its standing as one of the year’s standout new releases (The Spirits Business). The launch follows Planteray’s recent introduction of a Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask-finished version of its celebrated 20th Anniversary XO rum.

With the arrival of Planteray Sealander in the US, Planteray continues to demonstrate its commitment to craftsmanship, terroir, and innovation. This new release invites American rum enthusiasts to explore a blend that travels across oceans and cultures, uniting them in one unforgettable sip.
