History often etches names into books, but in the case of Ron Carúpano Carmen, the brand carves that legacy directly into the barrel. This ultra-premium release serves as the inaugural launch of the “Maestría Ronera” collection. Specifically, it pays an emotional tribute to Carmen López de Bastidas, Venezuela’s first certified female Master Blender. For over three decades, she has designed the very soul of the brand, and now, her own apprentices have honored that legacy.
For the first time in the distillery’s history, the blending team united their talents to capture the essence of their mentor. This team, formed under the direct guidance of López de Bastidas, created Ron Carúpano Carmen out of deep respect and admiration. According to El Estímulo, the Master Blender herself defines her craft as having the “capacity, taste, and sensitivity, but above all the dedication to blend vintages.” This new spirit proves that her knowledge has left an indelible mark on the next generation of rum makers.
This spirit offers a complex experience that reflects the “Carupanero” terroir. Visually, the rum presents a coppery amber color with golden flashes. On the nose, it reveals delicate aromas of candied fruits, wood, almonds, dark chocolate, and coffee. Upon tasting, Ron Carúpano Carmen provides a vigorous entry with a firm body. El Estímulo notes that the blend masterfully balances the characteristic sweetness of Venezuelan rum with a subtle salinity, leading to a long, creamy finish.
With this debut, the distillery officially opens the “Maestría Ronera” series, which aims to exalt years of history. It was vital for the brand to begin this collection by celebrating the woman who paved the way for future generations of women in the industry. Ron Carúpano Carmen will be available in high-end establishments and specialized retailers. The bottle, presented in a 0.75-liter format with a collector’s canister, carries a retail price of approximately $51.50. This Ron Carúpano Carmen release ensures that the legend of Venezuela’s first female Master Blender continues to grow.
