Duppy Share rum has officially joined the Charter Brands portfolio following the distributor’s merger with Scale Drinks earlier this month. Scale Drinks founders George MacNicol and Michael Campbell-Lamerton have moved to Charter Brands as part of this transition. As the brand’s new distribution partner, Charter Brands will promote the Caribbean heritage and unique flavor profile of Duppy Share rum in emerging markets worldwide.
Jack Orr-Ewing, CEO of Duppy Share rum, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership during this critical growth stage. He told The Spirits Business that the distributor’s global reach and commercial expertise will allow the brand to “scale strategically” and “unlock new opportunities.” Orr-Ewing highlighted that after a decade of building the UK’s largest independent rum, this partnership allows them to replicate that success globally without losing focus on their home market.
Already available in over 30 countries, Duppy Share rum will now utilize Charter Brands’ extensive infrastructure to broaden its reach. Charter Brands operates in more than 80 markets and maintains relationships with over 125 distributors globally. According to The Spirits Business, the partnership provides the brand with direct access to a highly experienced professional export team with a proven track record of brand building.
Matt Ashton-Melia, managing director at Charter Brands, praised the work Scale Drinks did to establish the brand’s initial international footprint. He shared with The Spirits Business that his team feels “very excited by the challenge of taking Duppy to the next level.” Ashton-Melia further noted that he has long admired the loyal following Duppy Share rum has cultivated over the last ten years.
The move to Charter Brands follows a successful crowdfunding campaign last year, where Duppy Share rum raised £1 million (US$1.3m) specifically for global expansion. By aligning with a distributor that possesses significant “overseas” expertise, the brand aims to solidify its reputation as a dominant force in the premium rum category.
Ultimately, this partnership marks a turning point for the brand as it strives to become the world’s largest independent rum name. With a strengthened board and the resources of Charter Brands, Duppy Share rum is well-positioned to navigate the complexities of international trade and consumer demand in the years to come.
