Brix Distillers Releases a New Range of Australian Rum

Brix Distillers, a Sydney-based craft rum distillery, launched a core range of Australian rum. The brand aims to educate Aussies on embracing rum, for beginners and aficionados alike. This is considered the first significant launch since the company’s foundation.

Brix launched in 2018 and, until now, has relied upon imported spirits for the dark rums in its range. After five years of hard work, the distillery can finally release the local rums it has been striving to produce, with enough mature stock to send around the country.

They now have enough aged rum to stop importing rum and develop their flavors by drawing down on their barrel-aged rum. The development follows the launch of Brix’s first 100% Australian-distilled and matured rum, Select Cask Series Stout Barrel Release, in 2022.

The new range comprises three distinct expressions, all crafted with local ingredients and aged in local wine casks:

  • Brix Australian Rum is aged for three years in Australian red wine casks. It offers a rich and complex flavor with pastry, baking spices, and light oak notes. This rum also provides hints of vanilla, caramel, and stone fruit, representing a “fresh and approachable” vision of rum.
  • Brix Australian Spiced Rum is a full-bodied liquor with local spices, fruits, and nuts. It is reminiscent of beloved local treats such as Pavlova, Jaffas, fruit, and nut chocolate. It delivers a bold and smooth profile with a perfect balance of sweetness and spice.
  • Brix Australian Cane Spirit is a fresh and light take on the liquor, crafted from Queensland molasses, charcoal-filtered to remove color, and finally blended with a 30% portion of aged rum.

To highlight the brand’s maturity, the new core line has been released in sleek, sophisticated bottles with redesigned labels showing full product transparency. Designed with versatility in mind, the distillery said these rums are ideal for cocktail mixing or straight on the rocks.

The Brix Core Range is available online, at leading retailers, or directly from the company’s Surry Hills Distillery. Likewise, Brix recently announced a national distribution agreement with SouthTrade International.
