TRL: What does rum mean for you? What made you fall in love with rum and when did it happen?
Rum represents a rich history, diverse culture, and versatility in flavors for me. I fell in love with rum when I first worked as a young girl in the countryside of Leogane in Haiti, where my father had his rhum/ Clairin distillery.
TRL: Three essential characteristics that define rum according to your perspective.
– Diversity of flavors: Rum comes in such a wide range of styles, from light and floral to dark and aged, offering something special for every single palate.
– Versatility: I love that Rum can be enjoyed in so many different ways: neat, on the rocks, or in a variety of cocktails, showcasing its adaptability in different drinking experiences.
– Cultural significance: Rum carries with it the history and traditions of the different countries/regions where it’s produced, making it more than just a beverage but a symbol of identity and heritage.
TRL: Benefits that the rum industry has given you.
The rum industry has given me the amazing opportunity to explore different cultures, meet and connect with like-minded individuals, and teaches me daily about the world of spirits and mixology.
TRL: What is your favorite place for drinking rum?
My favorite place for enjoying rum is probably on a tropical Caribbean island by the beach as the sun sets, surrounded by the sounds of waves and beautiful palm trees, embracing the beauty of nature while sipping on a delicious rum cocktail.
TRL: Why is it important to educate the rum consumer?
Surprisingly many people are not very knowledgeable about the rum production process. I believe educating consumers about rum in general helps them appreciate its diversity, and this in turn helps consumers make informed choices when purchasing and consuming rum products.
TRL: How can rum contribute to improving crises in some countries?
Rum production stimulates economic growth, creates job opportunities, and supports local communities in countries where it’s produced. Starting with the planting of sugar cane and throughout the whole process of production down to bottling and packaging.
TRL: What are your next goals in the rum industry?
My next goals in the rum industry include adding new products to my line of rum. I am looking into a flavored rum be it either fruity or spicy. And of course, the addition of aged rums is a must.
TRL: Plans you have when you leave the rum industry.
To be honest I don’t plan to ever leave the rum industry. I am building my empire daily for my family generations to come.
TRL: Why is the role of the bartender important in the rum industry?
Bartenders play a crucial role in the rum industry by introducing consumers to new and different rum cocktails and brands, literally helping consumers travel to different parts of the world through their rum-drinking cocktail experiences.
TRL: How can people learn more about you? Website? Social media page?
