Bacardi Boosts Conservation and Education Efforts to Safeguard Puerto Rico’s Bat Population

Bacardi in Puerto Rico recently marked the tenth Puerto Rico Bat Festival, held in partnership with the Puerto Rico Bat Conservation Program (PCMPR). Ahead of National Bat Week (October 24–31), the event occurred at the BACARDÍ® rum distillery in Cataño and drew over 500 attendees eager to learn more about bat conservation.

Hands-On Learning and Expert Insights

Festival goers enjoyed interactive workshops and exhibits designed to highlight bats’ critical role in the ecosystem. Experts in bat conservation led engaging talks, sharing valuable insights and answering questions. These activities guided participants on practical ways to help protect bats, fostering a greater understanding of their habitats and contributions to a balanced ecosystem.

New Educational Space at Casa BACARDÍ

During the festival, Bacardi unveiled a dedicated educational area as part of the Casa BACARDÍ visitor experience, enhancing awareness about bats’ ecological importance. This initiative reflects Bacardi’s commitment to conservation by creating spaces that support education and engagement with local wildlife.

Conservation Goals: Protecting Puerto Rico’s Bat Species

The PCMPR, in collaboration with Bacardi, aims to preserve the island’s 13 native bat species. These conservation efforts target specific regions designated as critical bat habitats in Puerto Rico, meeting standards set by the Latin American Network for the Conservation of Bats.

Supporting Local Wildlife Through Acoustic Monitoring and Eco-Friendly Spaces

Casa BACARDÍ, welcoming around 200,000 visitors annually, actively monitors local bat species using acoustic technology. This system helps identify the different species in the area, guiding Bacardi’s approach to creating bat-friendly environments that support feeding and reproduction.

Bacardi’s Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

Bacardi’s dedication to wildlife conservation extends to maintaining pollinator gardens that contribute to a healthy ecosystem. Bacardi in Puerto Rico received the Wildlife Habitat Council Conservation Certification for these initiatives, underscoring its role in promoting environmental stewardship and biodiversity.

Celebrating National Bat Week with Bacardi

As part of National Bat Week celebrations, Bacardi’s team at the world’s largest premium rum distillery will hold internal events to continue spreading awareness and appreciation for bat conservation.
