World’s Top‑Selling Rum: Tanduay Hits Eight‑Year Streak

Tanduay, the flagship rum of LT Group, finished 2024 as the world’s top‑selling rum for the eighth year in a row, according to Drinks International’s annual Millionaires’ Club report. The Philippine distiller shipped 23.8 million nine‑liter cases, widening its lead over Bacardi (19.7 million) and Captain Morgan (11.5 million).

Steady Growth Despite Industry Headwinds

  • Global case sales up 1.7 percent vs. 2023
  • Second‑fastest‑growing rum among high‑volume brands; only India’s 1965 also posted gains
  • Ranked sixth among all spirits brands worldwide

Roy Kristoffer Sumang, international business development manager, credits “collective team effort and consumer trust” for maintaining momentum while honoring Filipino heritage and craft.

How the Ranking Works

The Millionaires’ Club compiles shipment data from public filings and direct brand‑owner submissions. If two brands show identical rounded volumes, hidden decimal values decide the final order, the publication notes.

Expanding Global Footprint

Founded in 1854, Tanduay now reaches more than 25 export markets, including:

  • North America: United States, Canada
  • Europe: Germany, UK, Austria, Poland, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic
  • Asia‑Pacific & Middle East: China, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, UAE
  • Latin America & Caucasus: Peru, Costa Rica, Armenia, Georgia

Each new territory underscores the brand’s strategy of pairing Filipino identity with international quality standards.

Outlook for 2025

Industry analysts expect continued competition among major rum houses, yet Tanduay’s consistent sales growth and widening distribution suggest it will remain the world’s top‑selling rum for the foreseeable future.
