Mauritian premium rum brand Star & Key Rum continues its international expansion by entering the German market through a new distribution deal with Bremen-based Eggerssohn. The partnership officially launched in March 2025 and marks the brand’s first presence in Germany.

A Premium Spirit Rooted in Mauritian Heritage

Crafted at the historic Labourdonnais Estate, this rum brand uses freshly pressed sugarcane juice sourced directly from the estate’s lush fields. This approach ensures a high-quality agricole rum that captures the essence of Mauritius’ tropical terroir and agricultural richness.

Launched in 2024 by Cobblestone Brands, the label reflects a blend of island craftsmanship, heritage, and innovation.

Why The brand Aligns with the German Market

Eggerssohn’s managing director, Susanne Scheichl, expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying,

Star & Key Rum embodies craftsmanship, tradition, and authenticity, making it a perfect fit for our portfolio of exceptional spirits.”

This partnership not only complements Eggerssohn’s commitment to quality but also introduces a rum with a compelling origin story to German consumers who appreciate artisanal spirits.

Two Expressions Debut in Germany

Star & Key Rum launches in Germany with two standout expressions—VSOP and Passion Fruit Rum—each offering unique flavor profiles tailored to refined palates.

Star & Key Rum VSOP

This expression ages for a minimum of four years in toasted ex-Cognac French oak casks. Each bottle is drawn from a single cask, delivering rich and layered tasting notes such as:

  • Toffee
  • Vanilla
  • Nutmeg
  • Honeycomb
  • Cinnamon
  • Oak
  • Orange chocolate on the finish

Star & Key Rum Passion Fruit

Infused with fresh passion fruit from the estate’s orchards, this rum ages for two years in Cognac and Bourbon casks. Its tropical profile highlights:

  • Vanilla
  • Green apple
  • Mango and melon
  • Orchard fruits
  • Crème brûlée
  • Brown sugar

A Strategic Expansion After International Recognition

Gary McLoughlin, marketing director of Star & Key Rum, emphasized the importance of this expansion:

“Germany has an incredible spirits culture. We’ve worked with Eggerssohn before and couldn’t ask for a better partner to bring the Star & Key story to life in this market.”

This German launch follows the brand’s successful debuts in the US, Belgium, and Luxembourg in 2024. The move also builds on growing global recognition—particularly after Star & Key Rum VSOP earned two Master medals at The Rum & Cachaça Masters 2024.

What This Means for the Future of Star & Key Rum

With its entry into Germany, Star & Key Rum continues to position itself as a leader in the premium rum space. Its commitment to quality, authenticity, and innovation aligns perfectly with the tastes of discerning German consumers.

This strategic move signals not just growth but a rising demand for craft spirits rooted in culture and terroir—something Star & Key Rum delivers with every bottle.
