Stuttgart-based tech startup RumX introduces a seismic shift to the spirits world with the launch of the RumX Community Awards 2025. For decades, according to the enterprise, the industry awards operated as opaque systems—small juries tasting behind closed doors, often influenced by manufacturer fees.
RumX now proposes to move the sector into a new era by building the first fully data-driven, democratic competition, crediting consumers rather than expert panels.
RumX structures its platform around the same logic that made TripAdvisor and Vivino successful, yet Founder Oliver Gerhardt emphasizes a sharper commitment to data integrity. The company analyzed 60,670 verified tasting notes from the past year to determine this year’s award results.
“We didn’t build RumX as a pure rating app, but as a data platform,” Gerhardt told the press. He noted that major spirits companies “never truly understood their end customer,” and RumX fills that gap by revealing what people enjoy—and why.
To ensure accurate results, RumX addresses one major challenge: data quality inside an open community.
Their system uses three pillars:
A proprietary tool identifies patterns of manipulation, including review bombing, IP clusters, and disposable accounts.
Experienced users earn higher Trust Scores, so their votes carry more weight than one-off ratings.
RumX relies on median values to remove extreme outliers and keep results stable.
Together, these features help the RumX Community Awards stand apart as a credible, transparent benchmark.
RumX began in 2018 as a personal hobby to organize a rum collection, yet it now leads the global rum data ecosystem.
Key milestones include:
• 48,000 users with high retention
• 25,000+ SKUs enriched with distillation and cask metadata
• A 2025 evolution into a full marketplace
• API connections to 40+ European shops and auction houses
• Real-time price comparison and seamless buying options
Today, RumX functions as a lead-generation engine for specialized retailers and a critical information hub for enthusiasts.
The 2025 data collected by the organization exposes the disconnection between marketing narratives and real consumer preferences. RumX users consistently reward transparency and authenticity.
Products that clearly state additives, origin, and production practices earn significantly higher ratings from the community.
The top-ranked bottles rarely come from major global corporations; instead, independent craft producers dominate—often because they communicate openly and prioritize substance over marketing.
RumX builds digital tools that modernize the global spirits market. The company serves both consumers (app, community features) and businesses (analytics, e-commerce integrations), positioning itself as a tech authority within the rum segment.
