Pepsi and Captain Morgan Team Up for Canned Cocktail Launch

PepsiCo and Captain Morgan are making waves with the launch of a new ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktail. This exciting collaboration brings together two iconic brands to offer a convenient and flavorful beverage option for consumers.

A Bold New Drink

On Wednesday, PepsiCo announced its partnership with Captain Morgan to introduce a pre-mixed cocktail. The drink combines Pepsi Max, a zero-sugar cola, with a splash of Captain Morgan Spiced Gold rum. With an alcohol content of 5% ABV, the canned cocktail is now available at UK retailers for £2.59 (around $3.50) per can.

This release comes just days after Bacardí teamed up with Coca-Cola for a similar pre-mixed cocktail, and Coca-Cola’s recent cherry-flavored RTD launch with Jack Daniel’s. The beverage landscape has shifted from the classic Cola wars of the ‘80s and ‘90s to a new battleground: alcoholic canned drinks.

PepsiCo’s Commitment to Innovation

According to Bar Magazine, Natalia Filippociants, General Manager of Beverages at PepsiCo GB, shared the company’s enthusiasm for innovation. She said, “PepsiCo is always looking for new opportunities to meet the changing tastes and demands of consumers by bringing innovative products to market.” This partnership with Diageo, the company behind Captain Morgan, Johnnie Walker, and Guinness, aims to tap into the growing demand for RTD beverages.

The Power of Branded Mixers

Captain Morgan’s parent company, Diageo, noted that consumers are significantly more likely to purchase RTD drinks when marketed with a recognizable mixer brand. This trend has been embraced by other major players in the beverage industry. For example, Bud Light-owner AB InBev has launched a Hard 7up, while Pernod Ricard rolled out an Absolut Vodka Sprite cocktail.

Pepsi and Diageo’s First Collaboration

Though Diageo has produced pre-mixed cocktails before, this marks the first time it has teamed up with a major soft drink brand. Nuno Teles, Managing Director GB at Diageo, explained, “With a shared emphasis on fun, our partnership with Pepsi MAX brings together two iconic brands to create one epic taste that will inject excitement into the RTD category.”

A Perfect Match for RTD Lovers

Pepsi and Captain Morgan bring distinct flavor profiles to the mix, creating a unique and expertly blended drink. This collaboration is expected to energize the RTD market further and offer consumers a refreshing and enjoyable new option.
