TRL: Who is La-Shawn Johnson?
I used to make Coladas and add spices to cut the taste of the rum, over time I became known for being the best Coladas. I worked in bars and clubs as a bartender in my earlier years, and though I left the scene, making drinks was always my passion.
I woke up one day and wished the rum tasted like apple pie and then set out to create it. I have done nothing this huge and at the time I didn’t think this was huge. When I started this project, it was $10,000. I did not know I would need a great deal more than that. I kept going and do what it takes. I am glad I did.
TRL: What does the rum mean to you? What made you fall in love with rum and when did it happen?
This is a great rum for many reasons. I love the fact that it’s a very nice sipping rum but super fun in cocktails. You can put this in your favorite cocktail and won’t be disappointed.
TRL: Three essential characteristics that define the rum according to your perspective.
This rum is smooth, great tasting, and caramelized.
TRL: What is the most important contribution you have made to the rum industry?
I offer a unique flavor with incredible versatility at a reasonable price.
TRL: Benefits that the rum industry has given you.
I have been fortunate to meet great people, try new things, and have a freedom I never would have known.
TRL: What’s another thing you are passionate about besides rum? Why?
My greatest passion is my faith. I want to get so strong I can’t be moved.
TRL: What is your favorite place for drinking rum?
My deck is listening to music.

TRL: Why is it important to educate the rum consumer?
There is so much more about rum. It’s not just rum and coke anymore.
TRL: Any tips to train the palate and taste a good premium rum?
First, smell the flavor, then examine the clarity and taste.
TRL: Is the commitment to sustainable development the key to success for the permanence of the rum industry in the world? Why?
I believe so, people will pay for quality and to continue to bring the best quality they can sustain in the industry.

This allows people to really enjoy drinks and be as creative and bold as they wish.
TRL: What is your advice for new generations in the rum industry?
Arm yourself with knowledge of the industry and create a solid team who will share the sacrifices and don’t sponsor everybody.
