EcoSPIRITS and Candela Mamajuana Plan to Launch a Closed-Loop Spirits Service in the Dominican Republic

ecoSPIRITS—the world’s first low carbon, low waste spirits, and wine distribution technology—selected KOI DOMINICANA SRL, the producer of Candela Mamajuana, to launch a patent-pending closed-loop service in the Dominican Republic. Resorts in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana will be the first venues.

Candela Mamajuana is the finest expression of the island’s legendary spiced rum, inspired by a traditional native drink recipe. It was launched in 2016 by Alejandro Russo and his mother, Lillian Arinoviche. It would become the country’s first spirit available in the ecoTOTE format, beginning its path toward sustainable business practices.

As part of this closed-loop service, ecoSPIRITS will run an ecoPLANT 1.0S Lite and set up a fleet of Ocean Conservation edition ecoTOTES. They will also take part in the ecoSPIRITS Oceans Program, which will pay for the removal of trash from marine ecosystems. ecoSPIRITS Ocean Program is an initiative whose mission is to work with island nations at risk from rising sea levels due to climate change.

This plan is one of the projects announced by the Dominican Republic to invest in sustainability initiatives that help to improve the country’s ecotourism image. In this sense, each order of an ecoTOTE on the island will mainly fund the removal of single-use plastic and glass from marine environments using the Green Steps Group’s proprietary “proof of impact” technology platform.

Candela’s founders expect the brand to become an example of eco-conscious values by setting standards for other local brands to follow.
