Doble 9: Beveland Distillers’ Cuban Rum Range

In 2021, Spanish drinks group Beveland Distillers launched a rum range called Doble 9, designed to bring Cuban culture and experience to rummeliers. The name comes from the dominoes variant played in Cuba, where a double nine counts as the highest chip.

Doble 9 rum came out in Europe at the end of 2022 and became available in Canada in January 2023. The collection includes five expressions without added sugars and bottled at 38% ABV:

  • Añejo Reserva
  • Blanco Reserva
  • Añejo Gran Reserva
  • Elixir
  • Añejo 15 Years

According to the company, these high-quality expressions result from the sugar production tradition and the art of rum making. They also have the versatility to adapt to all types of palates.

The Añejo Reserva has a floral, sweet taste, making it ideal for cocktails, while the Elixir bottling is full of spice and fruit notes. The Blanco Reserva boasts a warm mouthfeel and sweet aftertaste with its own bouquet of light, mature rum, whereas the Gran Reserva presents a dark, syrupy taste akin to flavored liqueurs. Finally, Añejo 15 Years has dry fruits, vanilla, and coconut notes, with a strong woodiness.

In 2021, Stoller Imports helped Beveland Distillers bring its Marama Origins Indonesian rum to the US. Beveland already produces a wide range of spirits across several categories, including whisky, gin, vodka, tequila, and brandy.
