Rum cocktails are the stars of the menu, with creations that stand out for their originality and exquisite taste. Among the most sought-after are Rum Swizzle, a powerful and refreshing blend of 100-test Rhum J.M., watermelon shrub, fresh lime juice and pineapple juice; Old Marley, a bold combination of Redemption Rye & RumFire Jamaican Overproof Rum, mixed with Appleton Reserve Blend Jamaican Rum and Swedish Punsch, smoked on a large rock; and Floridita Daiquiri #2, an elegant version of the classic daiquiri, made with Probitas Rum, fresh lime juice, superfine sugar and homemade orange cordial.

Esotico

Esotico, located near bustling downtown Miami, stands out as a vibrant oasis of modernity and energy. This bar offers a contemporary and refined interpretation of the classic tiki style, providing its visitors with an enriching and lively experience.

With a selection of more than 580 bottles, of which 502 are rum varieties, Esotico is proud to offer one of the most extensive and varied collections in the city. This impressive range of rums translates into a cocktail menu that is both a tribute to the classics and a window into innovative and bold creations.

Among its most popular cocktails, Esotico features Nu Mai Tai, which combines Bacardi Gold Rum, J.M Blanc Agricole Rhum, a blend of Worthy Park 109 Jamaican Rum and Plantation Original Dark Rum, orange Curacao liqueur, passion fruit and a top secret ingredient. Another favorite is Sexy Colada, made with Real coconut cream, pineapple juice, coconut water, Bacardi Gold Rum and a hint of ginger, and Cock of the Rock, “a refreshing contemporary tropical liquid” with Real ginger-infused syrup, fresh pineapple juice combined with a blend of 3-year-old El Dorado Demerara, Plantation Original dark and Martini Bitter Riserva.

Esotico is also known for its lively atmosphere, with decor that evokes vibrant tropical jungles and sunny beaches. It is the perfect place for those looking to enjoy a night full of energy and flavour, ideal for both special occasions and casual visits. The bottle that is never missing in Esotico is the Holmes Cay Esotico Heritage Blend, always guaranteeing an authentic and high quality experience for rum lovers.

Kaona Room

Kaona Room, an establishment conceived by Daniele Dalla Pola, also founder of Esotico, represents a return to the roots of classic tiki charm. Opened in the week of Thanksgiving 2022, this bar has quickly positioned itself as a must-see destination in Miami for tiki enthusiasts.

Located inside the Esotico bar in Miami’s dynamic Arts and Entertainment District, Kaona Room can be discovered through a discreet side street entrance or directly from Esotico. Upon entering, visitors are immersed in a world where traditional Polynesian design meets modern touches, creating an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. This space is adorned with palm trees, bamboo and elements that evoke the Esotico charm of the Pacific islands.

Kaona Room stands out for its quiet atmosphere, ideal for intimate couples’ experiences or for those looking for a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. In contrast to the vibrant energy of Esoticoo, Kaona offers a more serene and thoughtful experience. Despite their differences, both bars share a commitment to quality and innovation in their cocktail offerings.

The Kaona bar houses more than 500 bottles, noted for its unique and meticulously crafted cocktails. Among the most notable drinks is “The Ghost,” a “clarified” version of the zombie classic, served in a 12-inch glass with an impressive piece of ice of equal length. Another standout cocktail is the “Miami Kula,” a reinterpretation of the first tiki cocktail ever created: the 1934 Sumatra Kula, made with guava nectar, Dan blend, lime juice, Esotico bitters, and Don Q 151 Overproof Rum.

In addition, its “Aged Mai Tai” combines Holmes Cay Heritage Blend Esotico edition rum, Appleton 12 years from Jamaica and Curacao dried orange Maison Ferrand, benefiting from a zoning process that condenses the aging process from 15 years to just 30 minutes.

Passing through the gates of the Mai-Kai, visitors are transported to an Esotico world, full of cultural and visual richness. With a décor that includes woodcarvings, fountains, and authentically Polynesian elements, every corner of the Mai-Kai is a tribute to the Pacific Islands. This place is not only known for its impressive decoration, but also for its famous Polynesian show, which includes dances from Tahiti, Hawaii and Samoa, making it an immersive and unique experience.

Mai-Kai’s culinary offerings are as varied and rich as its ambience, with a selection of dishes ranging from Asian to Polynesian cuisine. Visitors can enjoy exquisite dishes such as Pad Thai, Mai-Kai Honey Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken, all prepared with fresh ingredients and served in an unforgettable setting.

As for the drink, Mai-Kai offers a wide range of rum cocktails that are true masterpieces. Among the most popular drinks is the Kona Coffee Grog, a flamboyant cocktail that’s a favorite among regulars. Visiting Mai-Kai is like taking a trip to a tropical paradise. It is a place where history, culture, and a passion for rum intertwine to create an experience that goes beyond mere drink tasting. For those in search of authenticity and total immersion in tiki culture, Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale is a must-visit. Unfortunately, Mai-Kai had to close its doors in October 2020 due to a roof collapse following an intense storm. The damage prompted a change in ownership to ensure a complete renovation of this 67-year-old historic landmark. The multimillion-dollar renovation is expected to be completed by the middle of 2024, making this pause an opportunity to eagerly anticipate the return of this legendary destination and plan visits as soon as it reopens its doors.

Jaguar Sun

Located in the heart of downtown Miami, Jaguar Sun is a haven of elegance and flavor, a place where handcrafted cocktails and refined cuisine meet in an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Since opening in the fall of 2018, this small Italian cocktail bar and restaurant, located in the lobby of the X Building Miami, has earned recognition for its innovative approach and exceptional quality.

Co-owner and bartender Will Thompson has infused Jaguar Sun with a philosophy that combines excellence in cocktails with a carefully curated selection of spirits. With around 100 bottles in the bar, of which approximately 40 are rums, Jaguar Sun offers an experience that is both intimate and expansive. Among its rum offerings, Rum Fire stands out as a key ingredient in many of its cocktails.

One of Jaguar Sun’s most iconic cocktails is the ‘Jailbreak’, a variation of Old Fashioned that incorporates Rhum Barbancourt rum infused with coffee, bourbon and Japanese whiskey. This cocktail, like many others on its menu, is a delight for the senses, combining complex and sophisticated flavors in a harmonious way.

Jaguar Sun’s approach to spirits selection is not overwhelming, but rather an exercise in quality over quantity. Each drink and each ingredient on its menu has been selected for its exceptionality, with the intention of providing confidence and satisfaction to guests, something Thompson considered especially important in the category of good rum.

Jaguar Sun is not only a destination for cocktail lovers, but also for those who appreciate good food. Its menu of homemade pasta, charcuterie and salads perfectly complements its beverage offer, making it an ideal place for intimate dinners, special celebrations or simply to enjoy an elegant evening in the town.

Cafe La Trova

Café La Trova in Miami is a top destination for lovers of rum and Cuban culture. Located on vibrant Calle Ocho in Little Havana, this property is the result of a collaboration between famed master bartender Julio Cabrera and James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein.

The atmosphere at Café La Trova masterfully combines food, drink, and music to create an authentically Cuban experience. The restaurant boasts a décor reminiscent of Old Havana, complete with live jazz and trova music, especially on weekends. The mix of generations on the dance floor, from young to old, adds a special charm to the place.

Café La Trova’s culinary offerings are equally impressive. Its dishes are a fusion of traditional Cuban cuisine with innovative touches from Chef Bernstein. Hand-cut steak patties and croquettes, with fillings ranging from serrano ham to lobster, are particularly prominent. Rice with chicken and whole, spineless fried snapper are other star dishes, reflecting the authenticity and quality of the ingredients used.

When it comes to drinks, cocktails are the forte of Café La Trova. The Classic Daiquiri is a popular choice, but La Chancleta, served in a kind of wooden slipper, offers a more theatrical experience. Cabrera, known for his exceptional skill in preparing cocktails and his deep knowledge of the bartender’s art, ensures that each drink is a work of art in itself.

Cafe La Trova has received multiple accolades, including being ranked #9 on the list of the 50 Best Bars in North America and #24 on the list of the 50 Best Bars in the World in 2023. This recognition underlines the excellence of the place in terms of atmosphere, service, food and drink.

Cubaocho

Cubaocho Museum and Performing Arts Center in Miami is a cultural gem in the heart of Little Havana. This multifaceted space combines a museum, art gallery, performance venue, and bar, offering a diverse and authentically Cuban experience.

The center is recognized as one of the best places to enjoy live music in Miami. It houses the largest collection of Cuban art from 1800 to 1956 and has an impressive collection of rums, with approximately 482 bottles of different brands. This makes it an indispensable destination for rum enthusiasts and fans of Cuban art and culture.

Cubaocho is also known for its dynamic atmosphere. At times, the place is a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Calle Ocho, while at other times, it transforms into a lively space with a dance floor full of people dancing salsa. It is a place that is always worth visiting when strolling through Little Havana, standing out as a prime example of the authenticity one expects to find in this vibrant area of Miami.

In addition, Cubaocho is not only limited to being a center of entertainment and culture. It offers the possibility of holding private events, making it ideal for a variety of special occasions. The address of the center is 1465 SW 8th Street Suite 106 in Little Havana, Miami.

Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Co.

Located in Miami Beach, it’s a standout destination in the city’s vibrant bar scene. With a rating of 8.1 on The Infatuation, this establishment is known for its lively atmosphere and diverse offering, making it an ideal venue for various occasions, such as brunch, initial appointments, late dinners or just to see and be seen.

The bar has been recognized internationally, being ranked number 21 on the list of the 50 Best Bars in the World in 2018. This achievement not only reflects the quality of its cocktails and the atmosphere of the place, but also the impact and influence of its co-founder, John Lermayer, who posthumously received the Industry Icon Award. Sweet Liberty has been described as “Miami’s most beloved bar,” a nod to Lermayer’s philosophy of “pursuing happiness.”

The bar offers one of the best happy hours in town, with oysters at $0.95 and great cocktails for under $10. Plus, the night scene is always fun without getting messy. On Sundays, drag queen brunch is a standout attraction, offering both unlimited rosé and excellent fried chicken sandwiches. Sweet Liberty encapsulates everything we love about South Beach – it’s sexy and colorful, unafraid of a strong pink neon sign, and avoids the sense of overpricing often found on Ocean Drive.
