Barceló Imperial 40 Aniversario Premium Blend: A Dominican Masterpiece
Honoring Four Decades of Rum Excellence
To commemorate 40 years of rum-making heritage, Ron Barceló introduced the Imperial 40 Aniversario Premium Blend. This limited-edition rum undergoes a meticulous aging process: 12 years in American and French oak barrels, followed by a finishing period in ex-Sauternes wine casks.
Tasting Notes
The rum presents a rich and aromatic profile, featuring dried figs, dates, cherries, vanilla bean, roasted nuts, and sweet oak. On the palate, it offers dark chocolate, molasses, plum, toasted coconut, and a touch of acidity from the wine barrels, culminating in a long, smooth finish with lingering spice, leather, and cigar box hints.
The BevTest Judging Panel described it as expressing “aromas of butterscotch, cola nut, and brown butter maple baked apple. The palate features similar flavors with roasted apricot, marzipan, and banana notes. A world-class rum that is a symphony of maple, spice, sun-ripened fruit, and pastry shop flavors, all with a wisp of smoke.”
Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Rum: A Tropical Innovation
Redefining Coconut Rum with Natural Flavors
Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Rum, produced by Maison Ferrand, offers a fresh take on flavored rums. Utilizing locally sourced Barbadian coconuts, the rum undergoes a unique process where the coconuts are hand-cut, sun-dried, and infused into Barbadian rum, resulting in a natural and authentic coconut flavor.
Tasting Notes
This coconut-flavored rum boasts aromas of fresh and toasted coconut shavings, vanilla, and light floral and fruity esters. The palate is smooth and creamy, delivering pronounced coconut flavor, hints of caramel, and a distinct rum backbone, with a balanced sweetness that avoids being cloying. The finish is long and flavorful, evoking tropical themes of coconut water and warm beaches.
The BevTest Judging Panel described it as showing “aromas of toasted coconut flakes and chocolate coconut macaroons. The palate features similar flavors with accents of coconut crème brûlée, bananas foster, and roasted nuts. A superb coconut rum bursting with natural tropical flavors, drizzled in chocolate — yum!”
