The Story Behind Ron Viejo de Caldas León Dormido Finalizado

Ron Viejo de Caldas presented a special edition that was created from the mixture of two aging stories. The first story is about noble barrels that aged Oloroso in Spain in the Jerez region and were sent to Colombia to land in the cloud forest of the Caldas liquor industry. In the second part of this story, after the arrival of the barrels, they find that there are 68 springs with which they can give life to the rums, which spend their aging in Colombian white oak barrels.

The elaboration process of this premium rum takes place in the coffee region of Colombia, where the best ingredients are carefully selected to create a smooth rum with character. This rum is characterized by its unique aroma and flavor, thanks to the combination of vanilla, caramel, and wood notes. Each sip is a fantastic experience, with a dark amber color and a silky texture that make it even more attractive. In addition, the rum is made with spring water from the Great Volcano of Nevado del Ruiz.

For this edition of 27,000 bottles, the spirit underwent an alchemical finalization process for a year and a half in the barrels that aged Oloroso. Once the aging process of Ron Viejo de Caldas takes shape, it spends its last months absorbing notes and flavors that shape its new limited edition. They call this process “finished” (finalizado).

The flavor of Ron Viejo de Caldas León Dormido Finalizado is also influenced by the finishing process in sherry barrels, which gives it a taste of dried fruits such as almonds, walnuts, and raisins. In addition, a touch of citrus and a slightly salty flavor are perceived, which balance the sweetness of the other flavors. In this sense, the rum acquired extra aromas that shaded the classic flavors of the personality of Ron Viejo de Caldas. The rum is finally bottled at 40% ABV.

The elegant and sophisticated bottle in which it is presented reflects the tradition and excellence of the Industria Licorera de Caldas (ILC). This exclusive product has earned a place on the most demanding palates.

The 750-milliliter bottle costs about $358,000 and highlights the work of the rum masters of the Industria Licorera de Caldas; you can get it at Licores Medellín. This edition was launched in 2017 and paid homage to the Nevado del Ruiz Volcano.
