The Biggest Spirits in the US: Top Five Best-Selling Categories in 2024

The US spirits market experienced mixed results in 2024, with some categories growing while others declined. The Distilled Spirits Council of the US (Discus), in collaboration with IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, recently shared insights into the performance of the biggest spirits in the US by volume.
US Spirits Market Performance in 2024
In 2024, spirits supplier sales value dropped by 1.1% to $37.2 billion, reflecting a $424 million decline. However, volume sales increased by 1.1%, reaching 312.2 million nine-liter cases. Spirits maintained their lead in the alcoholic beverage market, holding a 42.2% share, slightly ahead of beer at 42%.
Chris Swonger, president and CEO of Discus, noted, “While the spirits industry has shown resilience, it remains vulnerable to economic pressures. Consumers faced high prices and rising interest rates, which affected their discretionary spending, including purchases of distilled spirits.”
