Educational Seminars and Exclusive Tastings at Total Wine & More Stores and Top Rum Bars
The Puerto Rico Government’s division Rums of Puerto Rico, a program under the Department of Economic Development and Commerce umbrella, is gearing up for a strategic tour across four major cities in Texas. The initiative aims to promote Puerto Rican rum’s exceptional quality and rich heritage in the U.S. market, focusing on increasing awareness and availability in Texas.
This tour is a collaborative effort between Rums of Puerto Rico and The Rum Lab, renowned for hosting both the Texas Rum Festival in Dallas and the Puerto Rico Rum Festival. Together, they’ve developed a series of seminars and events designed to elevate the visibility of Puerto Rican rums within the Texas market.
Each day, the tour will feature an educational seminar at one of the top-performing Total Wine & More locations. These seminars will be led by Juan Lastra, a Rums of Puerto Rico ambassador and owner of Cocktail & Bites Bar in Puerto Rico. Recently recognized among the top 10 bars in Latin America by Tales of the Cocktail 2024, Cocktail & Bites is known for creative rum-based cocktails and culinary pairings.
Furthermore, the seminars will spotlight two leading Puerto Rican rums: Bacardí and Don Q. Attendees will gain insights into the history, production, and flavor profiles of these iconic brands, with opportunities to sample and purchase them on-site.
In the evenings, the tour will move to select rum and cocktail bars across Texas, where Juan Lastra will host guest bartender shifts. During these exclusive events, attendees can enjoy unique, handcrafted cocktails featuring Ron del Barrilito, Bacardí, and Don Q—all inspired by the mixology expertise that has made Cocktail & Bites Bar famous.
“Texas is a key market for the rum category,” says Ana M. Ramos, Director of the Rums of Puerto Rico program. “Many of our leading brands are already available in the Lone Star State, and with this tour, we aim to enhance brand recognition further and connect consumers with the unique story and flavors of Puerto Rican rum.”
With a growing demand for premium spirits and craft cocktails, the Rums of Puerto Rico tour promises to be a valuable opportunity for consumers and industry professionals alike to explore the depth and versatility of Puerto Rican rum.
