RumChata is a rum cream manufactured in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, since 2009. Today, RumChata is one of the fastest-growing brands in the market. Its eye-catching bottles and tasty spirits are reinventing the cream category.

Tom Maas founded the company. In August 2009, he officially launched the first product. Since its introduction, RumChata has steadily grown within the cream liqueur category, both in retail and on-premise. It began as an interest from its founder in the Hispanic culture and horchata’s distinct combination. Horchata is a traditional milky rice drink from Mexico with a sweet taste and flavors from spices.

RumChata is made with a base of the finest Caribbean Rum. Their original recipe is made from scratch using natural ingredients: rice, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. RumChata’s first release is a smooth, creamy liquor bottled at 13.75% ABV.

The brand also developed a spiced Caribbean rum-forward flavor. It is combined with Mexican spice and Wisconsin dairy cream that tastes reminiscent of a boozy mug of horchata, Peppermint Bark. This is a delightful peppermint and chocolate treat for a seasonal finish. The other flavors in RumChata’s portfolio include Limón, which has a creamy RumChata taste with a hint of lemon.

From the beginning, RumChata has always been about its unique flavor profile and mixability, making it so popular. Also, another factor that makes it special is that it does not fall into a specific categorization. Many consumers have recognized RumChata’s distinctive flavor palette. They have used it in many recipes, including cocktails, shots, and desserts.

In the last decade, the top brand has kept coming up with new ideas to keep up with changing consumer tastes. In this sense, Coconut Cream is RumChata’s latest release. It combines the brand’s iconic Caribbean Rum and Wisconsin dairy cream with warm-weather-approved coconut. The liquor shows how rum, coconut, and cream can go incredibly well together. It is light, quaffable, and ideal for any celebration.

Like the other spirits, this variation of the cream liquor tastes delicious whether you drink it as a shot, on the rocks, or as a mixer. The combination of flavors works for consumers’ demands, who expect more creativity from the industry. This is how its versatility makes it suitable to mix with almost everything. On the brand’s website, you can find a recipe section that demonstrates the liqueur’s versatility in recipes, cocktails, martinis, hot drinks, and food.

Also part of the brand’s identity is its philanthropic work. The RumChata Foundation was formed in 2013 to share some of the good fortune created by the brand’s success. Its mission is to provide financial support to worthy causes with the same grassroots appeal that has made the RumChata brand a product that consumers can trust and depend on.

Moreover, they launched “RumChata Freedom Bottle,” an annual program in partnership with the Lone Survivor Foundation (LSF), which focuses its efforts on veteran aid, for example. The yearly Freedom Bottle program runs from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July, with limited-edition Lone Survivor Foundation RumChata bottles on shelves and floor displays.

In 2021, E. & J. Gallo Winery announced the acquisition of Agave Loco LLC, the owner of RumChata, and Midwest Custom Bottling LLC., which produces RumChata at its facility in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Maas expects that RumChata will thrive under Gallo’s guidance and keep growing and evolving.
