It’s finally here! The Second Release of Single Estate Series from Mount Gay

The second part of Mount Gay Rum’s Single Estate Series, 24_02_Vt18d2, has been revealed.

Launched in October 2023, the Single Estate Series features distinct terroir components of the Barbados estate, with each spirit being crafted solely from sugar cane cultivated on the St. Lucy property. Although sugar cane from 2016 and 2017 was used in the first episode of the series, the sugar cane used in this new expression was only collected in the summer of 2018. Its name includes information on the distillation process, its place in the series, and the year of release.

Nine days of extended fermentation, according to the company, brings out particular Barbadian characteristics in the molasses made from the sugar cane in this expression. Following distillation in copper pot stills, the liquor was aged in American oak barrels that had previously held Bourbon. As per the company description, the rum has notes of spice, almonds, sea salt, and milk chocolate in harmony with citrus and sweet fruit smells such as grapefruit, sweet plums, and banana. Grapefruit, oak, brown sugar, and a hint of smoke are among the flavors that are believed to complement the rum’s softly floral palate.

24_02_Vt18d2 is bottled at 55 percent alcohol by volume and comes in environmentally friendly packaging composed of 70 percent recycled glass bottles. The label’s vivid blue hue was inspired by the sky’s hue during the 2018 harvest. There will only be 5,418 70 milliliter bottles made available globally, of which 1,200 will be sold at $400 suggested retail at a few luxury merchants in the US.
