Our Mission
The Rum Lab is an educational, independent publication dedicated to the global rum industry—covering producers, history, culture, bars, competitions, and festivals with accuracy and respect.
What We Cover
News, interviews, profiles, reviews/first looks, event coverage, explainers, and data-driven features relevant to rum, rhum and ron.
Independence & Conflicts
Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, and commercial partners. We disclose any press samples, sponsored travel, or financial relationships within the article. Contributors must declare conflicts of interest before assignment.
Sourcing & Verification
We prefer primary sources (distilleries, producers, official records) and on-the-record interviews. Data points must be verifiable; statistics require a citation or link. Anonymous sources are used sparingly and only when their information is material and cannot be obtained otherwise.
Originality & Attribution
All stories must be original. If we build on another outlet’s reporting, we link and credit clearly. Quotes are accurate and unaltered; ellipses and brackets are used transparently.
AI-Assistance Policy
We may use AI tools for research support, transcription, idea generation, or copy-editing; AI does not publish unsupervised. A human editor reviews all copy. When generative AI meaningfully contributes to text or data visualizations, we note this in the article or in the byline note.
Reviews & Samples
Samples or media loans do not guarantee coverage or positive evaluation. If travel or accommodations are provided, we disclose this in the story.
Corrections & Updates
We correct factual errors swiftly and append a dated note at the end of the article. Substantive updates are labeled “Update” with date/time. Report an issue via our Contact Us page.
Photography, Video & Rights
We use licensed, creator-owned, or staff-produced assets. Captions credit creators; model or property releases are obtained when required. We are in the process of providing and including Alt text for key imagery. Please, if you see any image that has not been licensed, please let us know so we can remove it immediately. We source articles from third-party writers, and we trust what they give us is legit, but we might be tricked. So we appreciate your help.
Diversity & Inclusion
We actively seek perspectives from across the rum world—regions, genders, languages, and traditions—striving to represent the breadth of the category.
Reader Feedback
We welcome feedback. Reach us at info@therumlab.com or through Contact Us.
