DropWorks Distiller’s Drops: A Bold New Chapter in British Rum

DropWorks, the pioneering English rum distillery based in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, has launched the first release in its Distiller’s Drops series. This limited-edition rum marks a major milestone for the brand, blending innovation and craftsmanship in just 450 bottles.

Crafted in English Chestnut Casks

Unlike traditional rums aged in oak, the DropWorks Distiller’s Drops matured for 17 months in rare English sweet chestnut casks. These casks—custom-made by a local cooperage—create a nutty, rounded flavor with notes of praline, roasted chestnuts, and warm autumnal tones.

Founder and master distiller Lewis Hayes explained to The Spirits Business:

“Since opening our doors in 2023, everything has been building towards this. We’re excited to introduce our first limited-release Distiller’s Drop that showcases our ability to craft exceptional rum beyond our core range.”

Hayes added that while oak imparts vanilla and coconut notes, English chestnut develops a deeper flavor profile in a shorter time, making each sip unique.

“This is one Drop you won’t want to miss,” he said. “Enjoy it neat—no ice—to appreciate its full depth and complexity.”

Limited Access and Exclusive Launch

The Distiller’s Drops debut officially launches on 3 November, but early access begins on 27 October for the 295 investors who helped raise nearly half a million pounds during the distillery’s crowdfunding campaign earlier this year.

Subscribers to the DropWorks newsletter will gain early presale access starting 29 October, ensuring rum enthusiasts don’t miss future releases in the Distiller’s Drops collection.

Expanding the DropWorks Portfolio

The DropWorks range already includes Barrel Drop, Clear Drop, Dark Drop, Funk Drop, and Spice Drop, each representing a different facet of modern British rum.

In related news, the distillery recently appointed Greg Matthew, CFO of PJ Capital, as non-executive director, strengthening its leadership team ahead of the Distiller’s Drops rollout.
