Destilerías Aldea Presents an Innovative Expression: Special Cask Selection
Special Cask Selection is the new rum made by Destilerías Aldea. This expression was presented at the latest edition of GastroCanarias on the island of Tenerife, Spain.
This exceptional rum is made up of a mixture of rums aged in the best barrels of the distillery, to which honey has been added, to later return it to mature in oak barrels and thus give the final product.
Matured in American oak barrels, it achieves a perfect balance with pure honey from bees, with whose process the nuances of vanilla, coffee, and cocoa have been intensified, achieving a full-bodied product that will delight the most exquisite palates of rum aficionados.
The Maestro Ronero José Quevedo rescued an original recipe from La Palma from the 18th century to develop this blend, in which the locals mixed pure sugar cane rum with local honey, achieving an exquisite spirit that they macerated with citrus fruits to reduce its sweetness. From the base of this ancient recipe, Destilerías Aldea completes its range of artisan products made directly with sugar cane juice.
Special Cask Selection Rum is the first reserve rum produced and marketed in the Canary Islands. It has already begun to be sold in hotels and some island supermarket chains.
Its reception among professionals in the sector and gastronomic journalists has been excellent since it is a unique and exclusive product that brings new nuances and aromas to the palate without losing the essence of traditional rum.
In general, Ron Aldea has been characterized by its quality since it uses sugarcane juice in all its products, providing much richer notes and nuances to the rum. It is currently managed by the fourth generation of the Quevedo family, which since 1936, has maintained the initial philosophy of the distillery, using the original system from the first distillation while respecting the values of craftsmanship, tradition, mastery, family, and unique origin. All these aspects have made this brand a reference in the rum industry in the Canary Islands and one of the most appreciated in many countries.
