Crossfire Hurricane, The Rolling Stones’ new rum
Crossfire Hurricane is the very first product owned by The Rolling Stones.
Inspired by the opening lyric “I was born in a crossfire hurricane” from the Stones’ 1968 hit “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” the blend is the band’s tribute to the Caribbean islands that have been its muses for decades.
According to Kyle Rivera, Head of Sales for Crossfire Hurricane Rum (no, we didn’t get to speak with Keith or Mick), “The Rolling Stones’ long-standing connection to the Caribbean, which began in the ’70s while recording their album Goats Head Soup in Kingston, Jamaica, is where Crossfire Hurricane Rum emerged.” “The band was greatly influenced by the vibrant energy and music of the Caribbean, and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have frequently vacationed there over the years when they were not touring.”
Rivera claims that the band contributed “significantly” to the finished work. Richards and Jagger had a say in the flavor profile, branding, and general concept of the rum during their visits to the distilleries in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Barbados. Now let’s get started.
A piece of fierceness: Crossfire Hurricane tasting notes
“Caribbean blend [that] incorporates rums from Jamaica, Barbados, and the Dominican Republic that are perfectly aged in carefully selected oak barrels,” is how the brand characterizes the 40% ABV rum. “Up to five years” has been stated as the aging process.
That makes three different types of rum: fruity, balanced, and light, as well as a combination of column and pot still. We are limited to what our palates will allow us to taste because we are unaware of the distilleries involved or the blend. Plenty of citrus, toffee, oak spice, pineapple, banana, tobacco, and—I’m going to say it—brown sugar all present in this amber-hued spirit. It’s a great blend of all genres and, despite not being really unique, is undoubtedly popular and a great mixer.
