Black Tot Unveils Master Blender’s Reserve 2025
Last Updated on July 17, 2025 by Maythe Monoche
Black Tot Rum returns with the Master Blender’s Reserve 2025, the latest expression in its prestigious limited-edition series. This year’s release celebrates five years of craftsmanship by spotlighting rich Guyanese rum and layering in heritage from the Caribbean’s most iconic distilleries.
According to Scottish Local Retailer, the core of this blend features Guyanese rum supported by traditional navy-style rums from Jamaica and Barbados. A rare single cask from Trinidad’s legendary Caroni distillery—closed since 2002—adds depth and nostalgia to the profile.
A Tribute to Naval Tradition
The story of Black Tot Rum traces back to July 31, 1970—commonly known as Black Tot Day—when the Royal Navy issued its last daily rum ration. Sukhinder Singh, co-founder of Elixir Distillers and The Whisky Exchange, later acquired flagons from this historic batch. In 2010, he used them to launch the Black Tot Rum brand, honoring this long-standing naval tradition.
The Perpetual Blend Philosophy
Every year, the Master Blender’s Reserve 2025 continues the brand’s “perpetual blend” legacy. Each release includes a portion of the previous year’s edition. This technique began with the first release in 2021, itself blended with the Black Tot 50th Anniversary from 2020.
To mark this fifth anniversary, the 2025 blend also incorporates a special ration of the original 50th Anniversary edition—further aged in an ex-sherry butt since 2020. This continuous layering adds both complexity and historical continuity.
Rare Rums from Legendary Distilleries
The Master Blender’s Reserve 2025 doesn’t just offer exquisite flavor—it connects drinkers with lost distilling legacies. The inclusion of Caroni rum from Trinidad is especially noteworthy, as the distillery has remained shuttered since 2002. These casks, along with rum from the last remaining Royal Navy flagons, make this edition a collector’s gem.
