Published by
Joselina Rodriguez Osuna

Halo 7 was created by two black women, Ashley Jackson and JeNai Stanley, who are god sisters based out of the Chicago area. Avid rum drinkers, Ashley & JeNai sought to develop a rum that honored the tradition and heritage of rum and built on the craft spirit movement.  Meant to be a sipping rum, Halo 7 challenges the misconceptions of rum, elevates the rum experience, and captivates spirit drinkers of all types.

Ashley, a lawyer & innovator, and JeNai, an artist & college professor have worked to turn their dream of owning a premium rum and luxury brand into reality.

TRL: What does the rum mean for you? What made you fall in love with rum and when did it happen?

A: Ashley and JeNai have always had a passion for business and spirits. After years of travel and tasting spirits from all over the world, we fell in love with Rum.

Rum defines so much of our ancestry, it only seemed right that our dream would be to build our own vision of a premium craft spirit. Our goal is to build a luxury brand giving honor to our ancestors who spent generations cultivating the crops needed to create perfection while encapsulating richness and complexity with notes of vanilla, coconut, and caramel, defining an exceptionally iconic and indulgent experience while elevating craft spirits to the next level.

TRL: Three essential characteristics that define your Rum.

A: Three Essential Characteristics that define HALO 7 Rum are appearance, aroma, and flavor.

HALO 7 Rum’s characteristics:

– Appearance: Amber In color, smooth crisp clarity & viscosity

– Aroma: rich, bold notes of honeyed toffee caramelized fruit

– Flavor: vanilla, coconut, and caramel natural flavors that create a complex and full-bodied spirit mimicking the flavors and smoothness of an aged rum

– ABV: 35% / 70 proof 750 ML

TRL: What is your advice for new generations in the rum industry?

Advice for new generations would be to focus on innovation and creativity as these are essential components when entering the rum industry. For us, entering the industry has been interesting. As women, specifically black women, we aren’t the majority when it comes to spirit ownership and manufacturing, but always pulling from a rich foundation you can yield positive results.
