Washington, DC-based Cotton & Reed has strengthened its foothold in the Mid-Atlantic region by joining forces with Prestige-Ledroit Distributing Co. This strategic partnership, launched in July 2025, allows the distillery to extend the reach of its core rum portfolio across Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.

Jordan Cotton, co-founder and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration:

“Prestige-Ledroit has the best selection of both local spirits and rums from around the world, and we couldn’t be happier to join their book,” Cotton told The Spirits Business.

Why Prestige-Ledroit is the Right Partner

Specializing in artisanal spirits and independent producers, Prestige-Ledroit shares Cotton & Reed’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship. The distributor will carry the full lineup, including the distillery’s white rum, gold rum, PX dark rum, coconut rum, Allspice Dram, and their popular line of canned rum cocktails.

John Dynan, senior spirits portfolio manager at Prestige-Ledroit, emphasized the alignment in values:

“Cotton & Reed exemplifies the kind of creativity and craftsmanship we look for in our partners. We’re excited to help bring their exceptional rums to more bars, restaurants, and retailers throughout the region.” (The Spirits Business)

A Rum Pioneer in the Nation’s Capital

Since its founding in 2016, Cotton & Reed has earned recognition as DC’s first rum distillery. Nestled in the vibrant Union Market neighborhood, the company has made a name for itself through bold innovation, small-batch production, and a community-focused approach.

This new rum distribution move underscores the brand’s ambition to grow without compromising its craft values—a key strategy as independent distilleries navigate an increasingly competitive landscape.

Cotton Takes on Leadership Role in Craft Spirits

Beyond his work at the distillery, Jordan Cotton continues to champion the industry at a national level. In April 2025, he became president of the board of directors for the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA), after serving on the board since 2023 and leading the organization’s political action committee.

Reflecting on his involvement, Cotton said:

“Working with ACSA has been the best medicine I’ve found to counter the all-too-familiar feeling that this business can be just too tough.”

He also highlighted his goals for the organization:

“I’m excited to work with our talented Board to continue ACSA’s vital work—improving our regulatory landscape and strengthening the sense of community we all need to thrive in this challenging industry.” (The Spirits Business)
