Allied Blenders Expands Portfolio with Strategic Acquisitions

Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd has taken a significant step in expanding its premium beverage portfolio. The Mumbai-based company recently acquired the intellectual property rights (IPR) and brands of Fullarton Distilleries Pvt Ltd, the makers of Pumori pink gin, for ₹39.50 crore. This strategic acquisition includes well-known brands such as Woodburns whisky, Pumori small batch gin, and Segredo Aldeia rum. The transaction was finalized on January 31, reinforcing the company’s commitment to growth in the premium alcoholic beverages segment.
A Focus on Premiumization and Growth
To drive topline growth, Allied Blenders plans to build, buy, and partner with companies to expand its premium-to-luxury category portfolio. In line with this strategy, the company also invested ₹9 crore in Good Barrel Distillery Pvt Ltd, securing a 51% stake in the startup behind the premium rum brand Rock Paper Rum. By prioritizing premiumization, Allied Blenders aims to enhance profitability through an optimized brand mix and operational efficiencies. Investments in new brands will also fuel growth in emerging categories.
The Appeal of Craft Spirits
Fullarton Distilleries has gained recognition for its high-quality craft spirits, including Pumori gin, which features juniper berries sourced from Mount Pumori in the Himalayas. Fullarton’s founder, Rajiv Thadani, emphasized the company’s focus on unique products. “We have differentiated our blend of gin because we don’t want to compete on price. Our craft café rum, for instance, is infused with Indian coffee beans,” Thadani explained in a conversation with Mint. This acquisition aligns with Allied Blenders’ vision of delivering distinctive and high-value products to consumers.
Strengthening Presence in the Premium Market
The acquisition supports Allied Blenders’ broader goal of establishing a stronger foothold in the premium spirits sector. The Indian spirits market has witnessed a growing demand for premium alcoholic beverages, prompting leading players like Allied Blenders to expand their luxury offerings.
Earlier in January 2024, Allied Blenders launched its premium gin brand, Zoya, priced at around ₹2,200. This move marked the company’s entry into the high-end gin market. Additionally, Allied Blenders has continued to strengthen its premium portfolio with products such as Sterling Reserve B10, X&O, and Kyron Brandy.
Expansion Plans and Market Growth
Zoya gin has already made its mark in six Indian regions: Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Goa, West Bengal, and Chandigarh. The brand recently introduced two new flavors—watermelon and espresso coffee. Looking ahead, Allied Blenders plans to launch Zoya in the UAE market within this quarter, further expanding its international footprint.
Strong Financial Performance
The rising demand for premium spirits has driven revenue growth for Allied Blenders. In its latest financial results for the quarter ending December 31, the company reported revenue of ₹2,342.1 crore, surpassing the ₹2,074.9 crore revenue from the corresponding quarter in FY24. Additionally, the company recorded a profit after tax of ₹81 crore, marking a significant turnaround from the ₹2.5 crore loss reported in FY24.
Looking Ahead
As consumer preferences shift toward premium alcoholic beverages, Allied Blenders continues to adapt by expanding its brand portfolio and investing in strategic acquisitions. With strong financial growth and an increasing presence in both domestic and international markets, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the premium spirits industry.
